Historically the vast majority of gloves supplied to the British Military and emergency services were produced by manufacturers in the UK. In recent years the less specialised products sold in volume (such as leather combat gloves) have increasingly been produced offshore, initially in Central/Eastern Europe and subsequently further afield.
The move towards overseas production has been driven by a combination of factors, including reduced capacity in the UK, cheaper overseas labour and competitive tendering at European level which has had the (intended) effect of driving costs down.
However, UK manufacturers remain at the forefront of design, development and innovation, as well as continuing to produce the more specialist products, thereby ensuring that personnel from all services have access to the most technologically advanced hand protection.
